This early 1900's solid oak chest really shouts out taste and quality. One of the first things you should notice about these drawers was the proportions: the drawers graduate in size and this is the first thing that tells us that they are craftsmanship made. Secondly, are the drawers themselves: not only oak fronts, but, oak sides and bottoms. Furthermore, there are hand made dovetail joints on each drawer, front and back.
There is a makers plaque to the back of these drawers with the name E. ARCHER & SONS, YORKSHIRE. The sweep of the feet (an almost oriental style and one you might come across more in mainland Europe, in countries such as Sweden and Denmark). The chest has an ebonised effect (a combination of shellac, wax and patina built up after over 100 years). The chest is extremely stylised and classic in it's appearance. If you need convincing any further it has been finished with 2 delightful copper index handles and with the 4 larger drawers having copper cup handles that original and have themselves a wonderful patina built up on them. I think it's rather special, even a little Regency/Edwardian and has a very contemporary look. The 2 small drawers are a joy, the legs are not over elaborate and the fact that every inch of this is made from oak, and almost certainly British. A great piece of history and as unique as you are likely to find.
